Wishes are Horses
Although a French language & literature major (the first time around), it will take someone with more literary savvy to supply the source of the quote: If wishes were horses then beggars would ride. For now, I'll just quote (or misquote) it, as the case may be!
It was used to encourage me to stop day-dreaming and do something 'practical' like memorizing the U.S. presidents or the periodic tables. Together with all the other pebbles & pieces of straw offered by family & teachers, it became the foundation of a belief system "appropriate" for a woman of a generation which reflected the Leave it to Beaver view of what being a woman was all about. I really had the understanding that going off the college was all about getting an "MRS" degree...and if I HAD to do something outside the home, then a traditionally female (underpaid) profession would be acceptable.
My mother, bless her heart, was vaguely shocked when I left teaching & entered nursing. I think that from her perspective it wasn't as neat & tidy as teaching. It was not quite as respectable although it still met the description of "traditionally female & underpaid". That last part, of course is my take on it, not hers!
Her reaction then was NOTHING like it was when I later became a Reiki Master & workshop leader and then a substance abuse counselor, leaving behind "secure" careers & past educations. With each change for me the stretch for her was even greater. I always appreciated what a huge statement it was for a woman in her chair to say, "If it makes you happy, that's good." For the product of the Great Depression, letting go of the secure (however hum-drum or however ill-fitting) was just not done.
It took a maturational leap or three for me to realize, too, that my mother had not seen for herself the possibility of even one career outside motherhood--let alone several. It must have been hard for her to see the doors open to me that did not seem to be so for her. As she moved out of her body & into a new form, I could feel her joy at being free of the constrictions that she had known.
There have always been those who knew that security--and freedom-- are an inside job. There were always those who knew that our deepest desires--as well as our greatest fears--are realized. What we think about, talk about and feel about IS our reality. Today, through the teachings of the SECRET & other such means, we are hearing, seeing and feeling to what extent our focus & attention, our passion and our willingness to re-create our reality are at the core of realizing our dreams. We now know that the dream we dream awake as well as in revery is the steed we will ride as individuals and as a whole.
My gratitude & appreciate to those wonderful women who dreamed a dream of unity & power for all of us women and, in doing so, created BraveHeartWomen for all of us.
I am now privileged to also be allied in a unique Vision 2010 with others of spirit & passion for the health & wealth of all who choose to join. My life has come together in a new way to embrace the right for all of us to have our wealth in spirit matched by experiential & financial riches.
I'd love to meet you and share more about your dreams & visions.
